As my "online residency" at the Frost Museum, Miami, enters its' final weeks, a new project gets going.
A fellow artist from Australia, who is currently resident for part of the year in Wales, has a deep commitment to minority languages and is compiling a Welsh-Kurnai dictionary. From these words come ideas for paintings. This is quite a challenge for me, as I normally start my work with things (which lead to ideas) rather than with ideas, which may lead to things.
The first words are "adref" = "mallagan", meaning "homewards". I am basing the painting on a circular walk I make on a regular basis, starting at my house, crossing the fields and returning along the lanes.
